HEY CANBERRA! Welcome to our first ACT in-person event for 2025!

Get ready for a deep dive into the world of cataract surgery—where precision meets innovation. In this interactive workshop, we're not just talking about the basics; we’re diving into the latest techniques, cutting-edge technologies, and real-world challenges.

In collaboration with Nexus Hospitals and the University of Canberra, we are fortunate to have ophthalmologist Dr Jerome Ha lead us in a clinical skills night with a focus on cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOL) loading.
He will guide us on the impact of cataracts on our patients and the various techniques required to manage them intraoperatively. Followed by interactive clinical sessions where he will demonstrate live loading of IOLs.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Describe the cataract types and impact on the visual system
  2. Discuss the role of primary care optometrists in triaging patients for cataract surgery
  3. Discuss different IOL options
  4. Manage patient expectations prior to cataract surgery
  5. Video demonstration of cataract surgery procedure
  6. Demonstrate IOL loading and implantation
  7. Describe common cataract surgery complications and their management
